Homeschool Resources Vol. 2

Now, more about that curriculum…

In this Homeschool Resources series, the focus is on curriculums for lower grades because starting at middle school and beyond, the curriculum will vary based on the goal that you and your child hope to achieve with homeschool.

Many opt for the college prep curriculum, with the goal of college admission. While others have different plans for their children, in terms of apprenticeship, some sort of trade, or even a religious vocation. Whatever is your goal for homeschooling, run it by with God first. Pray about it because ultimately God’s plan for you and your family is what matters.

When I first started homeschooling, I picked a full curriculum and ran with it, but over time as I became more comfortable with homeschooling and began to understand the interests of my children, I mixed and matched subjects from different curriculums to suit our needs. The curriculum at TAN Books is a little bit like that.

The homeschool curriculum at TAN Books provides a Catholic world view, and over time, it has expanded and has gotten better and better. It was already pretty good in my opinion, but with the new offerings, it’s become a contender among other curriculums out there. In addition to the curriculum, they even have a lesson plan per grade for download as shown below.

The cost of their curriculum is decent. It’s not the most expensive curriculum, but it’s not the cheapest either. It is especially a good deal when they have a sale, so take advantage of it when it happens, like right now.

I hope you take the time to explore the TAN Books website for all it has to offer on homeschool. It is truly a resource. In addition to homeschool curriculum and books, they also have some amazing Catholic books.

Thanks for stopping by and stay tune for the next Homeschool Resources volume.

Of all the -isms ...

Of all the -isms in our culture today, this one is often ignored and up there with the most nefarious. I’m talking about nepotism. This is because it is so stealthy. It is not obvious. You never know who is related to whom, either by blood or by marriage.  Unfortunately, you don’t get to choose who your family are. The treachery within family is stuff of legends and timeless novels. At the same time, the benefits of some families just keep on giving, bootstraps not needed at all, just look for the red carpet treatment. When it comes to nepotism, there are tell-tale signs over time, emphasis on time. There are certain people who seem to get away with everything. Rules for you but not for them. Some of these people aren’t qualified for the job, and yet they have been promoted countless times to the top just like that. Then there are some people who haven't done much and yet they’re bestowed with awards and recognitions nonstop just for showing up. Meanwhile, the rest of us are...

Total Solar Eclipse 2024

Last month we were able to watch the total solar eclipse. We originally had other plans to see it elsewhere, but the eclipse madness was no joke. Everything and everywhere was fully booked very far in advance. At the end of the day, as long as you’re in the path of totality, you’re good to go along with your protective glasses. I didn’t have high hopes for it, as leading up to the day, the forecast was not good. Several weathermen mentioned that they wished they were wrong. It turned out that they were wrong, and we were able to see the total solar eclipse. The weathermen themselves were glad that they were wrong as well.  It was everything that I had hoped for and then some. It was simply awesome, and I can see why people chase after it all over the world. It was a once in a lifetime event for me, and I’m so glad that I was able to see it and share this moment with my family.
