I read this book for Lent of this year and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It's a short book, a compilation of St Francis de Sales' sermons during Lent. His sermons were originally intended to be listened to, but I find the written form just as insightful and even humorous at times. If I chuckled aloud from reading some of it, I can’t imagine what it would be like to hear it in person as part of his parish during that time.
The lessons from each sermon was clear and concise, and I felt that he used humor at times to get different points across and also to make sure that people in the pews were paying attention. The message of each sermon varied, and its aim is to teach and guide, in which it succeeded because I'm still thinking about this book well after Lent.
The is one of those books that I could read over and over again and still gain valuable insights and encouragements each time. It has helped me on my Lenten journey this year, and I highly recommend this book for Lent next year or just anytime.
