Total Solar Eclipse 2024

Last month we were able to watch the total solar eclipse. We originally had other plans to see it elsewhere, but the eclipse madness was no joke. Everything and everywhere was fully booked very far in advance. At the end of the day, as long as you’re in the path of totality, you’re good to go along with your protective glasses. I didn’t have high hopes for it, as leading up to the day, the forecast was not good. Several weathermen mentioned that they wished they were wrong. It turned out that they were wrong, and we were able to see the total solar eclipse. The weathermen themselves were glad that they were wrong as well.  It was everything that I had hoped for and then some. It was simply awesome, and I can see why people chase after it all over the world. It was a once in a lifetime event for me, and I’m so glad that I was able to see it and share this moment with my family.

Pentecost

During this week of Pentecost, let us reflect on what happened when the Holy Ghost came upon the Apostles through the passages from Acts below. “For John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence.” (Acts 1:5) “And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place:  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them:  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.” (Acts 2:1-4) May you be filled with the Holy Ghost. May you always be guided by the Holy Ghost. Come, Holy Ghost.

St Matthias, Apostle

Today is the feast day of St Matthias, Apostle.  So much focus has been put on Judas by secular society that people sometimes need to be reminded that despite Judas, the twelve Apostles continued on, preaching, working, and praying as Jesus commanded them.  St Matthias was the one who fulfilled the twelve. He was selected by the disciples, as told in Acts, described below. (Acts 1:10-26) 10 And while they were beholding Him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments. 11 Who also said: Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, as you have seen him going into heaven. 12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount that is called Olivet, which is nigh Jerusalem, within a sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alpheus, and Simon ...

There is no STEM shortage

There is no STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) shortage. This was evident many years ago, but this myth propagates on to this day. This is especially true now in the age of AI (Artificial Intelligence).  The tech industry is in that cycle at the moment of mass layoffs or RIFs (Reduction In Force). How people would like to call it or put into terms, it is still being fired. It means many people will be without an income and health benefits at a time when inflation is at an all time high in the US, like Jimmy Carter era high. The impact is not just on the individual employee but also on the family that they help to support. Regardless of how some people would like to frame the numbers on the economy, many people are feeling the pinch of the inflation. Everyday American families will suffer as a result. Many of these tech company executives that are laying off employees left and right are making millions of dollars, and this is not including their stock option...
